Smyth County Public Library

Client Location: Marion, VA

What We Did:

Smyth County Public Library is a county library system with branches in Marion, Chilhowie, and Saltville, Virginia. The library came to us after they were impressed with our work with Washington County Public Libraries, looking to create a better experience for their patrons.

The old site was put together using their cataloging software, which was clunky and difficult to create a good user experience with. Many sections were difficult to navigate, the URL and pages weren’t search engine optimized, and the design tools weren’t there. We met with key library staff and worked together to develop a vision for the new site.

We built the new site on WordPress, making it easy for library staff at all three locations to log in and add events, slides, news posts, and more as needed. Our custom theme ensures visual consistency across the site. We also worked with SCPL to convert several essential library forms into online forms sent to the appropriate staff member. The library staff took to using their new freedom immediately, and the library’s site is updated almost daily.

We receive constant compliments about the clean, functional design of our new website and the ease of use for our patrons. Jeremy was a wonderful and patient partner as we created and organized the site and has been most responsive in helping us get used to managing the content. Our staff finds our new site simple to update, encouraging everyone to keep it current. I highly recommend ThoseGeeks for your website redesign project.
