The Challenge
Fair websites live a double life: quiet for most of the year, then suddenly the most-visited page in the county the week of the event. Visitors need to find the schedule, figure out what's happening at a specific attraction, and do it all from a phone in a crowded parking lot with spotty signal. The site needed to be fast everywhere, easy to update from the CMS, and feel like a real celebration of the fair's biggest theme year yet.
What We Built
Built for speed, everywhere. The site runs on Astro and is served from a CDN, so pages load fast whether a visitor is standing at the fairgrounds or checking the schedule from across the country.
Sanity as the content backbone. A Sanity headless CMS gives fair staff a clean, structured way to manage attractions, schedules, and pages without touching code.
Smart, attraction-aware scheduling. The site still has one master schedule for the fair, but each attraction page also surfaces that attraction's own daily schedule — so a visitor looking at the livestock barn can see just the livestock events without leaving the page.
A theme that goes all-in. With the fair leaning into America's 250th, the whole site got a matching color palette, an animated fireworks hero on the homepage, and little fireworks sparkle details on cards throughout the site.
Two modes, one site. A season toggle switches the menu, colors, and content between fair season, tuned for fairgoer experience, and off-season, which shifts focus to general fairgrounds events and building rentals. That means the site stays useful and relevant year-round instead of just during fair week.
